A new year has finally come!

After an eventful 2007, we are now in2008, with hopes that this will be a better year for everyone of us.Of course, every year has its ups and downs, and while we may hopethat 2008 will be better than 2007, 2008 will be an interestingchallenge for us.

Nevertheless, in wisdom, we leave and lift all our worries unto theLord and take some time to ponder upon the good that we've done. In asociety that demands perfection at inexistent zero defect percentages(Toyota rated Perodua MyVi's zero defect rate at 0.29%), we are alwaysworking hard to make ourselves look good when in reality, we arealready as good as it gets. After all, where being made in God's imageis concerned, our deficiencies and inabilities are immaterial. Somehow.

Therefore, in celebration of God's love for all of us (the CSS and ourindividual selves), we would like to welcome you by simply havinglunch with all of you at:

Last Meeting - Learning to defy weekly routines, Hehe*

Here comes the end of the semester, which means this is the last week we will meet up, which means this is the last week I will be with you. As we near the end of the year and the start of Advent, if we have not learnt anything this year, let's remember to learn to surrender to our Father. Let Him teach us His will, because He is our Father. Cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us no matter what.

Firstly, let's talk about what we're going to do on our last meeting of year 2007.

We are skipping Bible Studies (tsk tsk) and going for lunch :)

We will meet at the Meeting Room at Level 3 (KPD Block E) for a short prayer before heading to lunch anywhere of your choice and vote ;)

Now I can rant.. hee*

I remember the first time I facilitated Bible Studies during one of our meetings :)
I remember all the laughter :)
I remember all the debates - well, not ALL, but few memorable ones :)
Most of all, I can remember when every single one of you walked into the room to join us. Although I may seem to be a forgetful person, I don't forget everything you know :P

I hope it's been a pleasure to meet me as it has been to meet you. I hope whatever friendship which has cultivated during the short time span that you and I have met, will continue to blossom and not die. I hope you found HELP CSS a channel of grace and learning, and not focus on our glitches. I hope you love God more and more each day, like I am learning to.

I was walking down Life Highway a long time ago,

First I got some Patience, Love was in the same row,

I got a box or two of Wisdom, a bag or two of Faith,

I just couldn't miss the Holy Spirit for it was all over the place,

I stopped to get some Strenght and Courage to help me run this race,

By then my basket was getting full.

But I remembered I needed some Grace,

I didn't forget Salvation, for Salvation was free,

So I tried to get enough of that to save both You and me.

Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery bill,

For I thought I had everything to do my Master's will,

As I went up the aisle I saw Prayer and put that in,

For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run right into sin,

Peace and Joy were plentiful, they were on the last shelf,

Song and Praises were hanging near so I just helped myself.

Then I asked the Angel, " Now, how much do I owe?"

He just smiled and said,

"Take them everywhere you go",

Again I smiled at him and asked,"

How much, now, do I really owe?"

He smiled again and said,"

My child, Jesus paid your bill a long time ago"

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

The end is near :)

Not that anyone's dying, but the stress is soon to be accelerated due to finals, among other things. This week, we will be studying on the topic of Malachi, who was the last messenger of the Old Covenant. Some questions for you to ponder on for more information on what the topic is on...

1) How do you decide the amount to put into the collection bag at Church or in the youth ministry?
2) Do you need to put in anything at all? (after all we're all still students, right?)
3) How do we rob God?
4) Do you hold strong to the saying, 'you reap what you sow'?

..Nearly every week we've been having a special sharing session we called it 'Highs and Lows of the Week'. I look forward to this session and sometimes it steals time away from the Bible Studies session :)
This is where we come together to share our worries and misery (lol) to each other and almost all the time, we walk out feeling better and strenghtened, knowing that there are people who are praying for what we're going through and that our Dad is always by our side if only we ask for His grace.. :)

For Worship this week, we'll be singing a song which I'm not sure if all of you know about, or not.. But hope you will find the tune beautiful, and find time to reflect on the words of the song, which is nothing extravagant, and yet... :)

Hi everyone! Yet another semester is coming to an end, and the closer it is to ending, the sadder I am becoming :) Excluding this week there would only be two more weeks left for me here with all of you.

Never mind, the au revoirs will come later.

Now let's concentrate on what I can still do together with you.

Last week, Josephine from Lifeline gave us (or me, rather) a surprise visit, and it was pleasant to have her :)

We did the Examination of Conscience as part of Worship, and Jo kindly affirmed us on that. Thanks Jo :)

This week, we'd be watching another series from Joan of Arcadia with the running theme of 'Learning to channel creative energy for good'. Since we all like to think ourselves as 'creative' people, what do we do with our brimming talent? :)

Noticing that someone/a group needs the energy is the first step.

Come discover our vocation to holiness and how to remain holy here on earth. This will be the final talk for the year, so come all out.

We are gearing up for the biggest Catholic youth event next year, and we want to invite YOU to be a part of this historic milestone. ----------Reasons why people think we're "crazy"---------

- We like to keep Mass interesting. We sit, stand and kneel, in no particular order. Probably just to keep the blood flowing.

- It's not merlot and Ritz they're serving; it's the Flesh and Blood of Jesus. No, really.

- Forget a big meal afterwards, just pick up some of the breakfast tacos they're always selling after Mass

- Purgatory.

- We all have 20 cousins. On each side of the family.

- Infant Baptism isn't dumb; it's after-life insurance.

- $5.00 in the collection basket is the epitome of generosity. Anything more than that, someone has hit the lottery.

- A missal is a book, not a weapon. However, it has been known to pull double duty.

- The signs we make aren't just a mark of respect, they're a lot of fun to do.

- Every Catholic Guy tries to sit next the really hot girl they like at Mass. THis is because they really want to hug during "Peace Be With You" and hold hands for the "Our Father"

- We really like statues. A lot.

- After every confession, everyone hits themselves on the head. This is because they have realized that they forgot that really big sin, and they know that it'll hang over their head til the next time.

- Contraceptives? Why?

- Altar boys continue well into their twenties.

- The 14 Stations has nothing to do with TV.

- "Peace Be With You" is just a way to meet pretty girls.

- We've always been taught that celibacy til marriage is the only way to go, forever and ever, amen. That being said...

- "Sin on Saturday. Pray on Sunday. Confess on Monday".

- The Mass doesn't start for a few minutes not because of tardy parisihioners. It's because the priest is running late.

- The Virgin Mary is not a God and we don't treat her as such. But she is without sin, gave birth to Jesus and did it without having sex. That warrants more than a little respect.

- 11:00 a.m. Mass means 11:15.

- We actually get all the jokes in Dogma.

- There are two very different, irreconcilable factions in every single church in the world. They are known as the Saturday or Sunday Mass bunch.

- St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. SNAKES.

- You miss JPII more than you miss some relatives... but who misses that child molester uncle anyway?

- Bake Sales are a way of life.

- Your knees are more calloused than your feet.

- Priests have been giving us alcohol since we were little kids. No wonder any one of us can drink Protestants under the table.

- The Catholic way of dealing with a mid-life crisis is having another kid.

- Mass is nearly unchanged after almost 2000 years. We're a little stubborn.

- Catholic School Girls.

- Whatever you gave up for Lent, you have it in your hands at 11:59 p.m. Saturday night, counting the seconds til midnight.

- Episcopalians are referred to as "Diet Catholics"

- You either love or hate the Stations of the Cross. There is no middle ground.

- We all know Da Vinci code is bogus and inaccurate. Yet we'll still read it if nothing else is goin on.

- "Offer it up!" = "Quit bitching!"

- We have Midnight Mass so there are no interruptions on Christmas morning

- You've slipped out an Amen after the Pledge of Allegiance.

- Holy Water can kill just about anything. So Protestants are pretty much screwed if a vampire comes calling.

- There's no way to explain it, but Catholic girls are just scorching hot.

- There's no need for impromptu prayer; you can always fall back on the Rosary.

- Pope Benedict XVI scares you. Badly.

- It's not uncommon for just one family to take up an entire pew or two.

- Boondock Saints is the greatest movie ever. E-Ver.

- Confession. Enough said.

- You're of the opinion that Stephen Colbert should be Canonized.

- When in doubt, say a Hail Mary.

- Who created Family Guy? Oh yeah, a Catholic!

- Whenever anyone in Star Wars saga says "May the Force Be With You", we get the urge to say "And Also With You"

- The Pope does indeed wear a funny hat. But it's way more interesting than Joel Osteen's suit and tie.

- If you see a guy leaning forward, looking half-dead with his head on the pew in front of him... he's not praying. He's hungover and was guilted into coming to Mass anyway.

- Even though you never met her or been to a country she's been in, you're still willing to have "seen" a miracle by Mother Teresa.

- We're the oldest Christian religion. Period.

Hello everyone :)

How is the semester going so far? Hope everything is going as smoothly as you want it to be, God willing :)

Last week, we had two new members who joined us, and are glad they did because they contributed quite a lot to the group that we had. We discussed on Trust and Faith according to bible passages and learnt quite a bit during the process. This week, we will be watching an episode from Joan of Arcadia, to discover if God is really 'everywhere', as we often think Him to be.

Hi brothers and sisters in Christ! :)

Pace yourself for a long newsletter this time, hehe :) Let's start with what just happened..

Attending Lifeline Camp 2007 at the foot of Genting from the 31^st of Aug to the 2^nd of Sept has to be one of the best decisions I have made this year. The camp whose theme is of 'Love', gave me more than Love to think about,thanks to inspirational speakers. Auntie Rita pointed out aspects of Love we sometimes fail to see, Adrian Ng from CKK emphasized the Holy Trinity and how it is encompassed in us, and Mark Solomon talked about 'Love Expressed'.

During the 3 days and 2 nights there, my favorite parts of the day have to be the "Praise and Worship" sessions which were held morning and night. People become unself-conscious and simply left themselves up to God in the presence of the Holy Spirit. It was also my first time 'leading Worship', so I was a nervous wreck before having to play the keyboard. Our Music Ministry members prayed over each other and we submitted ourselves to God. And when we did submit ourselves, He came to be with us. He used us as instruments to spread His word through music.

This experience of God so close to me will be remembered. For those of you who are faint-hearted with the topic of Love, don't be. You may have relationship problems and may not trust Love anymore, but what is man's love compared to God's love? God has loved us first. He is always there to see to us, and will always answer our prayers in His own way, given time.

Loving people who love us is easy. But to love those you think you could never love is the form of love we should all set to do.

Before we go on any further, what is a cell group and what do we do?
Membership in a Christian community, by God's standards, means accepting God's grace tobecome one with the Lord and our brothers and sisters in Christ as the Fatherand Jesus are one (Jn 17:21). Membership in a Christian community, by God'sstandards, means accepting God's grace to become one with the Lord and ourbrothers and sisters in Christ as the Father and Jesus are one (Jn 17:21). Christiancommunity is what we see in Jesus' ministry. It is an "intentional"community. Jesus intentionally chose twelve apostles in whom He invested Hislife. We too should discern our own "twelve," with whom the Lord hascalled us to share our lives in a special way. People who share a commondirection, ie. Wanting to learn more about God, can get to where they wantquicker because they are traveling with people they trust, with guidance andsupport on the way, together with affirmation ad genuine care. All this can be foundin a cell group, where members come together regularly to hear the word of God (extracted from lifelinedisciples.org, excerpts written by Josephine Tan).

13 reasons why we need a community:

1. to be baptised brothers and sisters in reality, not just name (1 Cor 12:13).

2. because we need each other.We're created that way (1 Cor 12:21).

3. for full power in evangelisation(Jn 17:21).

4. for the full release of the spiritual gifts, because the gifts are for the common good
(1 Cor12:7).

5. to experience fully Jesus' presence (Mt 18:20).

6. to hear God fully (Jn10:27).

7. for protection (Mt 18:12;Eccl 4:12).

8. for strength (Eccl 4:12; Gn29:3).

9. for growth in holiness (Prv27:17).

10. for exponential growth in power (Lv26:8).

11. to 'harvest' those who have experienced renewal (Hag 1:5-7; 2 Jn 8; Rv 3:2).

12. for authentic love (1 Jn 3:18).

13. to obey Jesus (Jn 17:21)

In our cell group, we learn and go over Bible Studies regarding various topicseach week, and also covering materials from Joan of Arcadia, a televisionseries of a girl who receives real life visions from God Himself. Each sessionstarts with a simple Worship session, and this may be in many forms (prayers,rosary, music, etc.). This semester we have also incorporated a small segmentwhere we share 'How we have been Christ-like that week'. This question posedmay encourage each member to move in God's direction always.
Thisweek, we shall be reflecting on the issue of 'Trust' and 'Faith'. A question youcould ponder on is, "What is the difference between 'Believing God' and 'Believingin God'"?..

There will be a Clubs and Societies Day on the 29th of August. For those who don't know, Clubs and Societies day is like a day where we sit down at booth with a pretty banner (drawn by Miss Meg) and with sign up sheets to spread the love about CSS! :)

It is a really fun day, really. Karen might bake cupcakes(might, might), where we can bribe people to join (joking! abutthe bribe). But it is a day where we can invite all our other catholic friends to join us in our little sessions every Friday.

All you have to do is just sit at the booth and do some occasional PR for CSS. :)

So if you're free on that day (free=must come!), please come and join us to spread the love! :)

There will be a LIFELINE CAMP 2007 coming up. The camp, which theme is going to be of LOVE, will be held from 31st of August to the 2nd of September at Villa Dominic near Genting. [SPECIAL EVENT] CSS Planning Retreat for Fall 2007

What comes into mind when you hear the word 'retreat'?

I think of secluded, environmental-friendly places (I attended one held at an outskirt ranch- just beautiful); silence and lots of it; abstinence of food; simplicity; Bible-studying; and me-time to ponder on. If you attended last semester's retreat, you would have an idea that almost all mentioned above is not really like our retreat *wink*.

Although we held the retreat at the GYM in SFX, it was by all means not secluded. There wasn't very much golden moments of silence. (except for Taize Prayers at the beginning) Food? Oh, there were boxes of pizzas lying around... meaning there wasn't a lack of food. ;) But of course there were discussions encircling the Bible :)

Personally I came to the retreat thinking it'd be a little dull...(How much fun can a college retreat be?) But found myself wishing extended time to the retreat. We learnt a little bit more about ourselves and our fellow friends, just like we do every CSS meeting :)

This coming Saturday will be our 2nd retreat :)

Hi everyone :)

7th week of the semester already. Where did all the time go? :)

Let's recapitulate.

This whole semester, we have covered topics such as Secret, Sins of the Tongue, Brokenness, Conflict and Envy. We watched 3 episodes of Joan of Arcadia- most of us, if not all, found it a learning tool, besides general entertainment. For Worship, sometimes we had singing sprees with the guitar; other times displaying our pottering skills with plasticine; yet other times learning existing prayers such as the Angelic Trisagion and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All in all, this semester has been very much implemented. One of us even said she felt CSS was established for her very own fulfilment.

Anupcoming event would be the semesterly Retreat on the 7th of July,which would fall on a Saturday. Watch out for more updates on this :)

This week, we will be praying the Divine Mercy. Here is a little description about The Divine Mercy Devotion.

Devotion to The Divine Mercy involves a total commitment to God as Mercy. It is a decision to trust completely in Him, toaccept His mercy with thanksgiving, and to be merciful as He is merciful. The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of St Faustina, a Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC.

A — Ask for His Mercy.

B — Be merciful.

C — Completely trust in Jesus.

For Bible studies, we will be focusing on the topic of Conflict, revolving around the story of Asa and Hanani from Chronicles, and around your lives as well. As for Worship, this week will be full of singing and guitar-playing.

May Crowning

Dear everyone,

May is traditionally dedicated to Mary in many cultures. May is considered the season of the beginning of new life. To celebrate this devotion, many churches have a daily recitation of the rosary. Some include the crowning of Our Lady's statue (May crowning).

May crowning became popular in the United States, especially prior to Vatican II. This practice continues in many parishes today. A statue of Mary is honored with a wreath of blossoms to indicate Mary's virtues, virtues that were to be imitated by the faithful. The important thing is that Mary be honored in a special way.

In honor of Mary, we would be praying the Rosary during Worship tomorrow during our meeting, followed by Bible Studies on a series of Joan of Arcadia, themed "Secret". Bring along a rosary and join us at SR 1.1, Block E OF KPD from 12pm-2pm.

[Weekly Newsletter] Joan Of Arcadia: Learning about Secrets

I don't know about the others who came to last week's CSS meeting, but I left the room feeling overwhelmed with contentment. During worship, we reflected on the images of God. Every one of us present molded a different image (using multi-colored plasticine), each unique in its own way to match the 'potter'. For the Bible studies, we focused on Envy, based on the story of Cain and Abel. From there, each of us learnt something more about ourselves and about our fellow friends.

The start of personal growth begins in knowing ourselves better. After knowing ourselves, we can choose to remain dormant or be willing to change for the better. We don't spend much of our time connecting our personal lives alongside our relationship with God. That is what we're trying to instill this semester.

Have you ever kept a secret even from people close to you? Have you told a secret to anyone? You would know that a secret could either break a bond or bind it. This week, we'll be watching a 45-minute clip from Joan of Arcadia, the theme being Secret. Following the clip, we would be sharing, discussing and reflecting based on the theme.

We had a wonderful time last week at the welcoming party; we started off with the Divine Office then praise and worship, slide shows and we ended with sing-songs! Reminded me of campfires. Haha. Oh yea, we also celebrated two birthdays: Marcos' (16th Feb) and Grace's (27th Feb) :D

Anyway this week we will be continuing with Alan Shreck's Catholic & Christian: An Explanation of Commonly Misunderstood Catholic Beliefs , the topic is The Pope: A Chief Sign of the Church's Unity

Roughly based on Lifeline's general plan, however we would like to know what YOU want or expect from HELP CSS. :)

* Planning for ADP Clubs and Societies Day

We'll be having a potluck of finger food (e.g. keropok, fries, doughnuts, chips, crackers, biscuits, bread) during the meeting, so just bring a snack enough for yourself and one other person. Oh yes, bring your own bottle of water - in case you get thirsty. :)
